A bipartisan coalition of U.S. senators and representatives sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Commerce and Customs and Border Protection expressing concern over alleged fraud involving kitchen cabinets imported from China. Representative Abigail Spanberger said, "There is evidence that Chinese cabinet manufacturers have sought to undercut the U.S. industry by circumventing antidumping and countervailing duties."

On November 10, the European Union is expected to enact tariffs on up to $4 billion of U.S. goods in response to U.S. subsidies to Boeing. Bloomberg's sources say that the draft list of targeted products will be finalized this week.

The U.S. Forest Service is now accepting applications for about $10 million in funding through the 2021 Wood Innovations Grant and the 2021 Community Wood Energy Innovation Grant. The grants are designed to support local economies through wood products and wood energy innovations while reducing hazardous fuels and improving forest health.

Federal agencies achieved about half of their goal for this year, treating less than 7,000 square miles of forest. Experts say that more funding, personnel, and policy changes are needed to improve performance.

The TreeCard, a wooden debit card made of sustainably sourced cherry, sends 80% of profits to forest restoration projects. Trees planted as a result of spending are shown on the accompanying app.

Tropical plywood from China remains a high risk according to the UK's Timber Trade Federation. While China's revised Forest Law may help, sourcing tropical timber requires robust due diligence and better control on the factory floor and in the sourcing practices of Chinese manufacturers importing from high-risk regions.
